These are both lasers. The peak to the left is a Helium Neon or HeNe laser while the peak to the right is a common laser pointer. The laser pointer is a diode laser and low cost. He Helium Neon laser is a gas laser with higher quality output suitable for use in an interferometer or other applications that require high beam quality. |
The Helium Neon laser has narrow linewidth and the FWHM measured is an indication of the spectrometer resolution. The bandwidth of the diode laser may be real but because of the spectrometer resolution, a higher resolution spectrometer like the SPM001 would be needed to determine more accurately the bandwidth of the diode laser. The higher resolution of the SPM001 is good for course adjusting tunable narrow band lasers, temperature tuning diode lasers, and very accurate bandwidth measurements. For example the Texas Petawatt Project at the University of Texas is measuring bandwidth at various points in the amplifier using the SPM001 spectrometer. |
